PA State Shoot

Almost had a medical emergency shootin’ the Holy Black earlier today.

Thought I broke my face from so smiling so much……..

I shot in the Gunfighter category this weekend at the PA State Shoot.  I’ve been shooting Double Duelist since last summer, and developed pretty good shooting skills with my weak hand and eye.  And for the past few months have been shooting Gunfighter, two guns at the same time.  But this was my first big match in this category.  Seems like *two* was the magic number this weekend cause I had two misses on eight outta 10 stages.  My weakness so far with Gunfighter is remembering the shooting sequences and which revolver has how many rounds still in it.  One stage I cocked and fired an extra round, and ended up getting that 10sec hit called a *procedural*.  Oh well, at least I was smilin’, having fun, and shooting Black Powder loads for the first time.  Overall, my times before penalties were assessed ranged from 35secs or so to 55secs or so.  My worst stage was almost 80sec after penalties, sort of a bummer, but other Gunfighters told me not to sweat it since you need to allow yourself a learning curve when changing categories/styles.

But my next big match is in a few weeks, back in PA, and I’ll shootin’ more of the Holy Black, but I’ll be doing Double Duelist.  So the next two weekends I’ll be doing Double Duelist to get back in the swing of things.  I’d like to do really good.  Shot at a comfortable speed people tell me.  Others say stay fast, and accuracy will follow.  I’ve seen fine examples of both schools of thought, and for me, comfortable speed works best.

Anyway, time to clean some guns, then I’ll be enjoying a nice cold adult beverage of the carbonated kind.

UPDATE:  Boy cleaning guns with wet ones wipes after shootin’ Black Powder sure match them bores shine!!!
