Maybe the Earth has spun off it’s axis, cause as far I knew the ACLU did not believe in an individual right to gun ownership.
Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro has instituted a policy that firearms seized during arrests will not be returned to their owners.
The ACLU says that policy violates Houston’s constitutional rights.

A couple of years ago I attended a speech by the ACLU president, I believe his name was Romero. This was at Cato Institute, and somebody asked him why ACLU didn’t support the 2A. He responded that right now the ACLU was suing the Texas Rangers because they were racially profiling white guys. He said that if a driver looked too much like a “bubba” – pick-up truck, bib overalls, John Deere hat, etc. – that the TR was pulling these guys over just to search for firearms. Romero claimed that ACLU was working with the local NRA affiliate in an effort to put a stop to that.
Generally, as you know, the national ACLU has a nominally neutral policy on the 2A because they have not been able to “articulate a civil liberties rationale” for supporting it. Although I think it is fair to say that 90% of their members are vehemently opposed to the 2A and would resign if ACLU decided to support the 2A. Plus, ACLU has several large donors, do they not, who are well-known enemies of the 2A.
