That’s Twice Now

That I’ve noticed the term *gun control* being morphed into *gun safety legislation*.

On Jon Corzine’s website, referring to his press release regarding NJ’s One Gun a Month bill that is the beginning of his latest gun control *gun safety* package.

CORZINE AND DEMOCRATIC LEADERS CALL FOR ADDITIONAL GUN SAFETY LAWS

and now, I spotted it on a list of Ted Kennedy’s accomplishments (page 21, under *Ensuring Safer Communities*).  It’s even interesting in and of itself that Ted Kennedy’s gun control *gun safety* legacy, but listed under the section *Ensuring Safer Communities*

He supported every major gun-safety initiative since the Gun Control Act of 1968

Is it just me?  Has this type of flim-flam switch-a-roo been going on for sometime?

Or could *gun safety* be the flavor of the day for nouveau gun banners?

UPDATE:  Google don’t turn up much when *gun safety legislation* is the search term.  Could be trouble on the horizon….

Nah, I’ve seen it before. It’s not something that usually comes up in the press unless it’s some kind of gun control that, when not really understood, non-gun owners might see as related to the safety of a gun (i.e. smart guns, locking guns up). Overwhelmingly, it’s just used by gun controllers. It really hasn’t caught on, so many groups using other terms to try and get something to stick (gun violence prevention, “sensible” gun control, etc.).
