NJ Gun Permit Attorney is seeing an increase in FID application denials, and in some municipalities, for no given reason. And forsees it getting worse.
I tell everybody I meet who lives in NJ, that if they want to buy a gun, spend the $150 on a safety class, and bring that certificate into the Police dept, and show them, when you’re picking up the application.
And remember, in NJ, self defense is not a valid reason to own a gun. That is what I was told when completing my application at the local PD. But, your mileage may vary…..

Speaking of “SKUM BAGS”
Let’s talk about the New Jersey State Police “Hope” Barracks -
Permit to purchase a pistol submitted 25 June 09
Originally told the hold up was at Headquarters
Finally found out -
Processed and sent to State Police Headquarters 03 September 09
What a bunch of BS – They forget who they work for!!
Also, this process should be contracted out!
Welcome to NJ where 30 days, does not mean 30 days.
Update:
Sent a “Letter of Complaint” yesterday to the New Jersey Attorney Generals Office – I know nothing will be done but it shows them that I am not afraid to confront them.
I wish more people would formally complain !
Be sure to inform us of any reply.
Thankfully (cross fingers) my town seems to be pretty cool on the thing. Though they’ve only got a week left. (Moved within town; need a new card. Supposedly the process will be easier since they don’t have to do the full check – it’s less than a year sinc eI got it)
I was told by JCPD that in town is no problem, they can do it same day. Out of town, they say I start from scratch.
Wouldn’t this be a kick in the teeth, have FID card, move to new town, and get denied!!
I suspect the delay is on the chief’s desk, myself.
Of course, the week before I went in to change address, I shot off all my “entertainment” ammo; I’m down to a couple of boxes…
Not that I’m expecting to have to strap a colander to my face anytime soon.
The one thing I’m worried about is that my wife and I had the same SBI number on all our paperwork (including the pistol purchase permits – which passed the check just fine). Wonder if one of us will have to do the whole thing again.
(The moving towns and starting from scratch thing was why I hoped to stay in town…)
Ok – Get a load of this new line of “BS”
Called the State Police Firearms Unit on the 17th September and they said the application had not arrived.
Called the State Police Firearms Unit again this time on the 22nd September and they said the application “miraculously” appeared after I had called on the 17th and it was processed and sent to the Hope Barracks.
Called the State Police Firearms Unit today the 28th September to confirm that the permits were processed and sent – The person I talked to was definitely annoyed that I would even call but eventually they gave in and confirmed that the permits were sent back to Hope Barracks.
Now the good part – I was told that evidently they send everything by interoffice mail and I was also told it could take up to several weeks for Hope to receive them!!!!
Again – This is total “BS” and a good reason to contract this process out.
I also wonder how in the hell this procedure effects the “one gun a month” mess??
In closing – I believe I have “pissed off” the Hope Barracks, the State Police Firearms Unit and the Attorney General’s Office but well worth it.
