Just got home, and noticed an Action Alert email regarding exemptions to NJ’s One Gun a Month Bill. The first bill I found I mentioned here. But it now seems that Sen. Fred *One Gun a Month* has introduced a bill, that will add exemptions to his One Gun a Month bill.
Let’s review what he’s suggesting;
- You’re acquiring multiple handguns via inheritance
- You’re a collector of handguns, and items you wish to obtain will not be available after 30days
- You’re a competitive shooter who needs more than one handgun for your sport within 30days. But you’ll have to certify that these handguns are for your sport. (This is were I would fall. And if it works like other States, you’ll need to supply Make, Model, and possibly Serial Number. So far, my gunsmiths who have done custom guns for me, all supplied this info quite easily to me.)
But it’s still not time to party like it’s 2099. Multiple handgun sales considerations can still be denied on grounds of public safety, or suspicion of straw purchasing. Also, all of this balances on whether or not you can demonstrate a *legitimate reason or justification*. Not too sure what to make of that. But being a SASS member, I purchase my wheelie’s in pairs, with custom work. Another question would be if they would deny a multiple handgun sale, to say, someone who does Steel Challenge, and there wish list contains handguns that are the flavor of the day with the criminal fringe.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
My only real hope for this steaming pile is to have it nullified by SCOTUS in the wake of McDonald vs Chicago; along with much of the rest of the rough brick walls (in your way, but climbable) that NJ law puts in our path to purchase and own.
