Seems like NJ is home to a Champion Mounted Shooter. Looks like Karl Bauer won the non pro title recently in Nevada, and Karl also runs the NJ Equestrian Center in Pompton Plains. I’m gonna have to look into watching matches next year.
I got to see Mounted Shooting in AZ this past winter. Way cool. The closest I got to mounted shooting was riding a rocking horse at a SASS match in PA. Still fun.
45colt is the caliber they use, along with black powder loaded blanks. I’m told that the unburned embers of the black powder is what pops the balloons they use as targets. I guess 45colt is used because you can load more black powder in that case, then you can in .38spl.
