Gun Show Trip

Went to a Gun Show at the Cobb County Civic Center here in Georgia.  Would that be in the Atlanta metro area?  Not sure how that works in these parts.

Anyway, I was really shocked to a lack of Jerky vendors.  One guy, in a remote corner, was selling Jerky along with firearms related goods, so I wouldn’t consider him a Jerky vendor.  But I did come across a vendor selling rain gutter services.

Was able to pick up a few boxes of primers so I can get to loading wholly this summer.  With the amount of matches I hope to get to, I should have enough to last till August.

Lot’s of handguns.  Not to much on the AR 15s.  It becomes ever apparent that I need to learn a bunch before I dabble in that realm.  Need to shoot some before I make a purchase as well.  Uninformed decisions can cost $$$ down the road, which is a lesson that is often taught, but rarely learned.

Spotted a Winchester ’73 in 44.40 for $1700.  It was made in the mid 1880s I’m told told, and after looking on line, it’s a 2nd generation model.  And for that price point, it was the nicest condition I’ve seen.  After looking online, there where one’s in worse condition for over $3k.  But if I was to get it, I would shoot it.  And that’s the problem, if anything breaks, I get to pay $$$ for custom made parts, since the current parts for the clones, do not fit in the originals.

Actually got to see a S&W Lemon squeezer.  Really good condition.  Don’t think the trigger was ever pulled.

But going to guns shows makes me think.  I try to make informed decisions, and am willing to spend $$ on quality stuff to use, and if older stuff is around the same price point, why not get it?  But that’s the problem.  Cartridges, and parts when things break.  On top of finding a competent gunsmith to fix it.

A 1898 Broomhandle is on my wish list, and some guy had three for sale, but again, cartridges and parts.  Cause I can use that noisemaker in local Wild Bunch matches.

Now to hem and haw about going back to see that ’73.

UPDATE:  Who am I foolin’?  I purchased that ’73, on the ground that the firing pin gets replaced.  Along the line, someone musta disabled it so that it could be a wall hanger.  Turns out it’s a 3rd generation, made in 1892.  Very good bore.  Excellent would be shiny new, like one of his ’92′s made in the 1890′s, but that one was over $2k.  Any thing over that price is not a shooter in my book, and I’m not into safe queens.  Also got large primers, will need to get dies, brass, and boolits.  Gonna make that fucker roar!
