You sir, are lucky in that one area. Here in Texas, while having much better relations between gun owners and the law, the sight of a rifle bag inspires one of two reactions: “Guns kill people you know” or, “So, whatcha running there? ” The second is always followed by the person explaining that my lovely wooden clad firearms aren’t tacticool enough.

The sad thing in NJ is, that if they knew bags were rifle bags, dollars to donuts my block would be on lock down, if not out right evacuated.
Here in NJ, all firearms are illegal except under certain exemptions. And I would have to prove I was in an exemption.
I’d like to see that change, but people are too wrapped up into getting CCW reformed first.
Carry your FID and make sure your rifles are unloaded. If you eat street pizza anyway go for a 1983 suit – a FID allows the possession of an unloaded longarm while not on the grounds of an educational institution per NJ statute law. Which I think you’ve seen me reference on NJGunForums.
Don’t bother with a suit in NJ courts, though – I’m sure they’ll find some way to weasel out
