Black Powder Tactical Zombie Shoot

Recently attended Contagion 2010 in PA.

Went with some black powder 45acp for my 1911, and black powder shotgun shells for my knucklebuster.  The whole thing was a big hoot.  I got a kick out of people’s responses when they asked *What powder are you guys using?  That’s a boatload of smoke!*.  I exclaimed, with a big grin *Black Powder Baby!! GOEX all the way, filled to the rim!!*.   The muzzleblasts of flame really impressed a few people, and I could tell who would be looking into the dark arts.  One guy even asked for the recipe.

The whole experience was great.  I went with a shooting friend, and we both cowboy’d up.  We weren’t sure how it all would go over.  But it went over quite nicely, everybody loved the black powder, big grins everywhere.  Hell, even won the best dressed couple award.  Hopefully next year, the ticks of getting an AK to successfully run BP loads will be worked out.

I was really happy that my Springfield GI 45 ran much smoother than the last time I ran black.  I polished the ramp, and barrel throat, plus holding the 1911 like I meant it probably helped to, since I was told *limp wristing it* can cause problems.  Thankfully, I didn’t get any of the dreaded *3 point jams* this time around.  Not sure if the utter lack of lube on the slide, and slide innards helped at all, but I’ll keep the lube on the extreme minimal side for my next trip down black powder lane.

I’ll be going again next year.

Here’s a photo of the 1911 belching smoke (password: Brainz {pages 7/8 have the BP photos}).  It’s hard getting a photo of one spittin’ flames, maybe next time.
